Family home of the general Alagba of Porto Novo, his majesty M.Fatoumbi.
This Egungun is called Gbébo. He is the one who makes offerings and sacrifices. Sometimes he goes out without ceremony to wake up the women and men of the house, to tell them it’s time to get up. He is the one who brings home from the forest the new Egungun by chanting and praying all along the way. During the Egungun performances, he is the first one to appear on stage, to dance and warm up the room before the others go on. He is the only one allowed to go out with an initiated young man to announce that there will be an Egungun show in the village or the city neighborhood. In ancestral times, when he went outside, he went to market to replenish the staples and condiments that were used to prepare food for the family.
